Establishing camp 1, 11./12.7.01

11.07.2001

This was the most exerting day of our expedition until now. Christian, Lydia, Ralf and Olaf left for camp 1 at 2.45 in the morning. The reached the interim depot which was filled yesterday two and a half hours later. So they took all equipment, fuel and food from there and reached the place of camp 1 at 5900 meters height four hours later. The whole day, the built up the large main tent and secured it against storms.

12.07.01

Christian, Olaf, Ralf and Lydia started at 4.00 in the morning to descent to the base camp. The advantage of having skis revealed for the first time. Christian needed only some minutes to descend the first 400 meters to the ski depot at the beginning of the rugged part of the glacier and saved 1 hour to the base camp when compared to the others. The remaining of the day, we used for straigten up our tents. Moreover, Christian fixed some problems with our solar power supply.
