1st. ascent, 10.7.2001

At 3 o'clock in the morning the alarm clock rings, a clear cold night around us. After having breakfast and taking the equipment, everyone put his 17 kg bag on his shoulders Rucksack and at 4 a.m. we are in front of the tent of our Spanish friends. Three of them want to accompany us. Olaf, Lydia, Ralf and Christian cross the notorious ice field in direction of camp 1. The ascent is not that hard as expected because we can follow the steps of a previous expedition that has marked the way by little flags. In the morning, all is deeply frozen and one minimizes the danger to break down in a cleft. We arrive at our target beyond the ice field in 5500 m altitude already at 6.30 a.m.

The prospective camp 1 in 6000 m heigt is near but we want a slow adaptation and stay the night at our base camp. So, we stored the contents of our backbags at this interim camp and returned. At 9 a.m. we arrive at the base camp again. The remaining of this day we make little repairs and sleep. Tomorrow we want to go to Camp 1.
